Guinness and His Ball & Cody's Magic Shoes

Several days ago, the farrier came out to trim Cody and apply the next iteration of heel expanding pads. (See the EDSS website for more technical info.)

Interestingly, Cody does the best when shod at liberty - no halter or leadline. He stood quietly with hay for about 2 hours and 15 minutes - with a few potty (in the corner of the paddock) and water breaks! When his patience finally gave out, with about 15 minutes to go, all I had to do was halter him and he allowed Dave to finish.

While Cody was having his feet done, Guinness was playing with Smokey. When he got done with that, he entertained us all by chasing his large white rubber exercise ball around the field. It was the funniest thing that I've ever seen him do. At one time he was even kneeling on it with both forelegs. Fortunately it didn't pop!
(See the video below.)

What a clown! I hope you got some good video of him with the ball. He is such a "Rocky!"

Really cute photos of Guinness and the ball! Ivan loves big balls, too, he blew up two of them last summer. He jumped on top of them after chasing them across the arena.

Hi Clare--

I think it is interesting about Cody and his feet. What horsenality is he? Wilbur was much the same and I used to trim him at horse camp at liberty in the corral and at home, just ground tie if I used anything at all. He was always best this way, especially with his rear hooves which were problematic. He was trimmed by "pros" who really jerked him around and really cranked his legs up. I was not like that with him at all. I never actually charted his horsenality (or don't recall doing so anymore) but I think he was a right-brained introvert.

I love Guinness and the ball. I have to find a photo I have from my previous boss, Nan. It is her sister's stallion having a great time with the green ball--maybe you remember seeing it up on my fridge in VA? Very cool indeed. My horses are not afraid of the ball, I can place it on their backs, touch their legs, etc. but, they don't chase it around or anything. They do love to bite, tip, and roll the barrels though. Remember Fosse and the barrels in VA? It was his goal to knock them from the arena and into the road!

Miss ya--
